About "Tjeldsundfergensvenner"

Just beneath the historic walls of the Akershus castle in Oslo, lies a small, charming ferry from which beers and wines are served from its open-air decks during the summer months. Since 1988 the ferry has been moored at the location named Rådhusbrygge 1 (City-hall pier # 1).
From this very ferry that in the 50 ties to 80 ties used to serve the staits of the Northern part of Norway, you can enjoy a stunning view of the harbour, in the vicinity of old steamships, and at the same time encounter a lovely, local ambience hard to find anywhere else in Oslo.
The season is normally months of May through end of August, Opening hours varies slightly depending on weather, however usually from 2 PM till late.
A variety of refreshing Norwegian brews are available together with some more exotic, classic German beers - both draught and bottles. Of course non-alcoholic alternatives are available as well. The wines are normally Italian of origin, carefully selected by the ferry owner, who spends his off-season time in Italy.
In spite of the great environment and atmosphere; the beers, the sun, the people, the laughter and fun, the ferry is old (built in 1954 at Danielsen Båtbyggeri, Harstad). The up-keeping of such an old ferry is very demanding, time-consuming, and expensive.
The ferry is in a desperate need of maintenance and repair. A devoted circle of regular visitors and friends has therefore formed a society to support the owner on matters of maintenance - for example collective work on repairs, establishing sponsorships, and financial assistance.
The society, named 'Tjeldsundfergens venner' (ie the 'Friends of the Tjeldsund ferry') counts at time of printing more than 300 members, and the party of friends is steadily growing. You are cordially invited to visit the ferry and enjoy the lively spirit on board, and of course apply for a membership!
The 'Friends of the Tjeldsund ferry', heartily welcomes you on deck!
